Orthodox icon of Saint Antonina the Martyr of Nicaea on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Antonina was from the city of Nicaea, who during the reign of Emperor Maximian confessed Christ, for which she became subject to various torments and imprisoned. Then she was taken out of prison, and after refusing to sacrifice to idols she was made to be hung up and torn at her sides. Antonina derided the deities of the Greek pagans and the erring ways of the emperor and for this her torturers were ordered to unclothe her and harsly beat her. When the torturers approached her, straightway Angels descended from Heaven and hit the torturers harsly, pushing them back, thus keeping the Saint from harm. After this she was placed on a lit grill, but she came out of this unharmed. Then she was placed in a sack and thrown into the lake of Nicaea and died. Her feast day is on June 12.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
