Catholic icon of the Santa Maria Maggiore on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

The icon arrived from Crete in Rome in 590 A.D. during the reign of Pope Gregory I. The icon is one of the so-called ''Luke images'' believed to have been painted from real life by Saint Luke himself. Mary wears a gold-trimmed, dark blue mantle over a purple/red tunic. Christ is holding a book in his left hand and his right hand is raised in a blessing. The Virgin holds in her left hand a mappa (embroidered ceremonial handkerchief) and wears a plain, golden, ring band in her middle finger of her right hand.
