Catholic icon of Saint Walpurga on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Walpurga was born in Dumnonia, England and was the daughter of Richard the Pilgrim. In 721 her father entrusted her to the abbess of the double monastery at Wimborne Abbey in Dorset, while he was set out on a pilgrimage to Rome. After 1 year Walpurga learned that her father died at Lucca, Italy. She remained at the monastery where she was educated and became a nun. She travelled with her brothers to Francia to assist her uncle Boniface in evangelizing the still-pagan Germans. She became a nun at the double monastery of Heidenheim and in 751 she became the abbess of the monastery. She died on 25 February 777 or 779. She is the patron saint of hydrophobia, storms, sailors and the cities of Eichstatt and Weilburg in Germany, Oudenarde, Veurne and Antwerp in Belgium and Tiel, Groningen, Arnhem, Amby and Zutphen in the Netherlands.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
