Saint Isaakios the Confessor

Orthodox icon of Saint Isaakios the Confessor and abbot of Dalmaton Monastery on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon. 

St. Isaakios was born in Syria in the end of the 3th century and early 4th century. He was a pious man and embraced ascetism in a young age. He became abbot of the famous Dalmatian Monastery and lived with prayer, fasting, vigil and study of the Holy Scriptures and the writings of the Fathers of our Church. During the years that Emperor Walis (364-378) reigned in the East, he was forced to reach Constantinople. Emperor Walis was a fanatical follower and supporter of Arianism and persecuted the Orthodox with hatred. Isaakios insisted on meeting Emperor Walis and asked him to stop persecuting the Christians and to open their churches. But the fanatical heretic emperor remained unconvinced and ordered to be mercilessly scourged and thrown into a precipitous chasm, with thorns, and to be imprisoned. Emperor Walis died in the battle of Adrianople against the Goths. His successor Emperor Theodosius I supported the Christians and released from prison all the priests, monks and citizens, among them Isaakios. For the rest of his life Isaakios lived at the Dalmatian Monastery. He died in peace in 396 and his feast day is on 30 May.
