St. Ekvtime was born in 1865 in Racha region. At the age of 15 he traveled first to Kutaisi, then Tbilisi and founded a theological ''book club'' . The objectives of the organization were to understand the ancient school of Georgian chant and to spread knowledge of this venerable musical tradition among the people. In 1890 the organization purchased a print shop and published theological texts and distributed them to the public free of charge. In 1912 he began to labor as a novice at Gelati Monastery, he was tonsured a monk and in 1913 a hierodeacon. In 1917 he was ordained to the priesthood. In 1921 he was arrested by the Communists, but was released due to the lack of evidence. In 1924 he brought manuscripts to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral for safekeeping, and was appointed dean of this parish. He transcribed the music from the medieval neume system of notation to the European-style staff system. In 1929, St Ekvtime was relocated to Zedazeni Monastery outside of Mtskheta. He died in 1944 and his feast day is on January 20.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
