St. Bernardino was born in 1380 in Massa Marittima, Tuscany. Left orphaned at 6, he was raised by a pious aunt. In 1397, after a course of civil and canon law, he joined the Confraternity of Our Lady attached to the hospital of Santa Maria della Scala. In 1403 he joined the Observant branch of the Order of Friars Minor, he was ordained priest in 1404 and was commissioned as a preacher in 1405. For more than 30 years, he preached all over Italy. He was invited to Ferrara in 1424, where he preached against the excess of luxury and immodest apparel. Returning to Siena in April 1425, he preached there for 50 days. In 1426, Bernardino was summoned to Rome to stand trial on charges of heresy himself for his promotion of this devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. In 1431, he toured Tuscany,  Lombardy, Romagna, and Ancona and declined the bishopric of Ferrara. In 1435 he declined the bishopric of Urbino. In 1444 Bernardino died at L'Aquila in Abruzzo. His feast day is on May 20 and is the patron saint of advertising, communications, compulsive gambling, respiratory problems, the city of Capri, the diocese of San Bernardino in California, public relations personnel and Bernalda in Italy.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
