St. Apollinaria was from an illustrious family and lived in the 5th century AD. On a pilgrimage to the Holy Land she was accompanied by several slaves whom she set free and having given them plenty of money. She did not return to Rome, but went to Alexandria where she embraced the monastic life. Apollinaria made her way to Wadi El Natrun, a desert valley in the Nitrian Desert west of the Nile Delta , where she joined a large monastery of recluses living in caves and cells, run by Macarius of Alexandria. She was able to disguise herself as a man and assumed the name Dorotheus. Apollinaris' gender was not discovered by her fellow hermits until her death in 420.
Her feast day is on January 5.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
