Saint Ambrose of Optina

Orthodox icon of Saint Ambrose of Optina on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Ambrose was born in the province of Tambov, Russia in 1812. He was of a priestly family and in 1830 he entered the Tambov Theological Seminary. After his graduation he became a tutor to the children of a landowner and remained there for a year and a half. After this he became a teacher at the local parochial school. In 1839 he quit his job and went at the Monastery of Optina Pustin. In 1842 he received the monastic tonsure and was the cell attendant of Elder Macarius. In 1845 he was ordained priest; afterward his health began to decline and he had ask to be relieved of all duties. In 1848 he he was able to walk with the aid of a cane. In 1860 Father Macarius died and Ambrose was appointed as his successor. In 1884 he founded the Shamordino Convent. In 1891 Father Ambrose fell asleep in the Lord. His feast day is on October 10.
