Saints Iliofotoi (Heliophotoi) of Cyprus

Orthodox icon of Saints Iliofotos, Ammoniou, Choulelaiou, Efstheniou and Epafroditos on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.  

Saints Iliofotoi took their name from their spiritual father, priest Iliofotos. During the second Crusade, due to the many persecutions in the orthodox monasteries that existed, resulted in many monks leaving their monasteries and arriving in Cyprus. Among them were the Five Holy Iliofotoi, who were on the boat anchored off the coast of Paphos. After disembarking from the ship, they dispersed to different parts of the island, to isolate themselves. After they had advanced quite a bit, they went and settled in a cave on Koroni mountain, near the present village of Kato Moni. They lived there according to God's will, with prayers, fasting and vigils. Savino, the cruel and pagan ruler of the island, learned about their Christian action and ordered them to refused their faith. The Saints remained firm and steadfast in their faith. Then the torture began. Whippings, imprisonment, tearing of the flesh and finally death by beheading. Their feast day is on July 13.
