Saint Nicholas the Huckster from Karpenisi

Orthodox icon of Saint Nicholas the Huckster from Karpenisi on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon. 

St. Nicholas was born in Karpenisi, Greece, to pious parents, who raised him to be pious and educated. At the age of 15 he went to Constantinople where he worked in his father's general variety store. His father, however, wanted him to be educated, so he had his son totured in the Turkish language by a well-educated Muslim neighbor who was a neighbor. Soon the tutor plotted with a group of Janissaries to make young Nicholas a Muslim. One day, in the presence of these Janissaries, the barber presented Nicholas the Muslim declaration of faith in Turkish to read. After being informed that he had just declared himself to be a Muslim, Nicholas responded: ''I am an Christian Orthodox, and not what you say''. Forthwith the Muslims present took Nicholas and presented him to the kaymakam. The Muslims said to him that Nicholas made a declaration of faith in their presence and when they ask him to become a Muslim he mocked their faith. The kaymakam tried to bride Nicholas with riches and great offices, but Nicholas replied that he was an Orthodox Christian. The kaymakam had him thrown into prison and deprived him of food and water. He spent 65 days in prison, and was given only enough food and water eventually just to keep him alive. Nicholas was sentenced to death and was beheaded in the year 1672. His feast day is on September 23.
