Saint Ia (Violetta) of Persia

Orthodox icon of Saint Ia or Violetta of Persia on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Ia was an elderly Christian woman who lived in the fortress Bet-Zabde. King Shapur II of Persia took the fortress in 362 and made captive about 9,000 Christians. Ia was among the Christian prisoners who were deported to Bet-Houzae in Persia. There she make the word of God known to the women of the place, but the husbands, suspecting that she was trying to persuade their wives to flee matrimony, denounced her. King Shapur ordered two of his magi to seize Ia and torture her until she would worship fire and water. Covered in wounds, she was thrown into prison and stayed there for 6 months. At the end she was crushed in a press and beheaded. Her feast day is on September 11.
