St. Constantine was born from Muslim parents, on the island of Mytilene. His father died when he was quite young. At the age of 15, Constantine was afflicted with smallpox, which caused him to go blind. Taking pity on him, a pious Orthodox Christian woman asked Constantine's mother for permission to take him to a Orthodox shrine with Holy Water. The woman washed Constantine in the sacred font and he was cured. Shortly afterwards, his mother remarried and moved to the city of Magnesia in Asia Minor. His stepfather proved to be a drunk and beat him regularly. Constantine and his oldest brother left home and went to Smyrna, where they opened a vegetable store. Constantine delivered vegetables to the headquarters of Metropolitan Kallinikos II, where he listen to religious readings, and slowly his love for the Christian message grew. Suddenly Constantine left for the Holy Mountain and met Patriarch Gregory V, who retired there between his 3 tenures as patriarch. Constantine at the monastery of Kavsokalyva was baptized and, after a short time, went to Iveron Monastery to venerate the miraculous icon of Panagia Portaitissa and then went on to the Skete of Saint John the Forerunner. A short time later, Constantine decided to return to Magnesia and from there to Smyrna, but he was recognized by a Muslim and was taken to the aga. There he confessed he was a former Muslim and now a Christian Orthodox. The aga ordered Constantine beaten and imprisoned until he came to his senses. A few days later, Constantine was brought before the vali and was asked if he had changed his mind and he refused. The aga decided to send him to Constantinople, to the Admiral of the Fleet, who questioned Constantine when he arrived. But he remained steadfast and was sentenced to be incarcerated in a bath house. Finally, he was hanged on June 2, 1819.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
