Catholic icon of Saint Hemma of Gurk on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
St. Hemma was born circa 995 AD, she was a member of a noble dynasty descending from Pilštanj, Slovenia and brought up at the Imperial court in Bamberg, Germany by Empress Saint Cunigunde. Hemma married the Carinthian count Wiliam II of Friesach, Austria, and had 2 sons. Both her sons and her husband were murdered in 1036 by the deposed Duke Adalbero of Carinthia in revenge. Countess Hemma used her great wealth for the benefit of the poor and founded 10 churches. In 1043 she founded the Benedictine double monastery of Gurk Abbey, where she withdrew during the last years of her life. She is the patron saint of childbirth, diseases of the eye, extreme hangovers and the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt State of Carinthia. Her feast day is on June 27.
