St. Anthimos was born on July 1, 1869 in Chios. He left elementary school early to become a shoe mender. At the age of 19 he visited the Skete of the Holy Fathers founded by the monk Pachomios. With the blessing of the elder, Anthimos returned home and built himself a small hut and dwelt in it. After a time he retired to the Skete and it was here that he became a monk. He fell ill there and his abbot sent him home to his parents for the sake of his health. In 1909, at the age of 40, he received the Great Schema by the successor of Pachomios, Hieromonk Andronikos. In 1910 the Bishop of Smyrna ordained him to the priesthood. After a pilgrimage to Mount Athos in 1911, he returned to Chios, where he became chaplain to a leper hospital. In response to a vision of the Mother of God, St. Anthimos built a monastery in 1930, which opened with 30 nuns. The Monastery of Panagia Voithia soon housed 80 nuns and was known throughout Greece as a model of monastic life. When he was too old to work with his hands, he retired to his cell and prayed that he be enabled to serve his neighbor until his last breath. He reposed in peace at the age of 91 on February 15, 1960.

Care Instructions
My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
