St. Camilla was born out of wedlock in Camerino, Macerata, in the Marche region of Italy, the daughter of noblewoman Cecchina di Maestro Giacomo and Giulio Cesare da Varano, the Duke of Camerino. Her father did all in his power to force her into marriage and imprisoned her for 3 years. Camilla resisted her father's plan so firmly that her father gave his consent to her becoming a nun. On November 14, 1481, she entered the Poor Clare monastery at Urbino. On January 4, 1484 Camilla and 8 other nuns transferred to the new Monastery of Santa Maria Nuova at Camerino. Her father founded a new monastery of that Order at Camerino, and presented it to his daughter. By the time she turned 35 years of age, she was elected Abbess for the first time. She was elected abbess of her monastery in 1500 and she was re-elected in 1507, 1513 and 1515. She died in her monastery in Camerino during a plague on 31 March 1524, on the feast of Corpus Christi, at the age of 66. Her feast day is on May 31.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
