Saint Ansgar of Hamburg
Saint Ansgar of Hamburg
Catholic icon of Saint Ansgar of Hamburg on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
St. Ansgar was born in Amiens and reposed in Bremen in 865. For a period of time, he resided with the baptized Danish king Harald Klak. St. Ansgar was appointed a missionary by the Swedish king Bjorn when Louis the Pious at Worms in 829 requested by two representatives from Sweden. He arrived at Birka in 829, with his aide friar Witmar, and a small congregation was formed in 831, which included the king's own steward Hergeir. The see of Hamburg was designated a "Mission to bring Christianity to the North," and so St. Ansgar became known as the Apostle of the North. A statue dedicated to him stands in Hamburg, and a stone cross at Birka. His feast day is on February 3 and is the patron saint of Scandinavia, Sweden, Denmark, Hamburg and Bremen.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
