St. Papas lived during the reign of Emperor Maximian and Governor Magnus, in the city of Laranda in Lycaonia. He confessed his Christian faith, was arrested and brought before the governor. He suffered many kinds of tortures. After throwing him on the ground and beating him, they broke his jaw by stricking his face with a rock. Then they hung him upside down and scourged him, ripped at his flesh with iron claws and burned his wounds with a lit lamp. Then they forced him to wear iron shoes covered with nails and had him run from Laranda to Diocaesarea in Isauria and on to Seleucia. Lastly they tied him to a withered fruit tree, from which immediately emerged leaves and flowers and fruit, and there he died. His feast day is on March 16 and September 14.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
