St. Jerusalem lived and was martyred when Marcus Aurelius Probus was emperor of Rome. She was born and raised in Alexandria of Egypt from a wealthy family. Her parents were Christians and raised her in the Christian way. She wanted to remain a virgin dedicated to God, but her parents married her against her will. She gave birth to 3 children; Kegouros, Sekendinos and Sekendos. She raised her children also in the Christian faith. After 8 years her husband died and she became a widow in a young age. She travelled in many places preaching God and eventually went to Rome. There with her holy life, her labours, her fasts, her prayers, and her teachings drew many to Christianity. Even Emperor Aurelianus believed in Christ when St. Jerusalem healed his son Philodorus. In 276 AD. Emperor Aurelianus died and became Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus. He persecuted the Christians. St. Jerusalem and her children died as martyrs from the hand of Governor of Thessaloniki. Their feast day is on September 4.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
