Saint Paisius Velichkovsky

Orthodox icon of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Paisius was born in Poltava from 1722-1794. His father died when he was 4 year old and was brought up by his elder brother John. At the age of 13, Paisius attended the Kievan Theological Academy and stayed there from 1735 to 1739. In 1740 he left the academy and followed his vocation to monastic life. He entered the monastery of Lubetch on the banks of the river Dnieper. He soon moved on to the monastery of St. Nicholas Medvedovsky on the river Chasmin, where he became a rasophore monk. The monastery was shortly afterwards closed and he returned to the Pechersky Lavra at Kiev. Paisius entered the Da(lhauti Skete and then went to the Tra(isteni Skete. After two years he moved to the Carnul Skete, in Wallachia. In 1746 Paisius moved to Mount Athos and specific at the Pantocrator Monastery. In 1750 he was tonsured to the Lesser Schema. In 1758 he was ordained to the priesthood and moved to the Skete of St. Elias. In 1764 Paisius and 64 monks sailed for Moldavia and came to the Dragomirna monastery of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Bucovina. In 1775 Bucovina was taken forcibly into the Austrian Empire and Paisius took refuge at the Secu monastery in Neamt. In 1790 Paisius assumed the Great Schema and was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. Paisius died on November 15, 1794 and was buried in the Neamt monastery.
