It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

Saint Isidoros of Chios was in the Royal Fleet of Rome when his faith became known and he suffered severe torture in Chios island. His father arrived in Chios sad and asked his son to embrace idolatry again. When Isidore refused, his father became enraged and asked Admiral Numerius to put him to death, which he did. After the Saint's martyrdom his body was thrown into a well to be devoured by animals, but two Christians, Saints Ammonios and Myrope secretly took his body, and buried it in a secret place, with all due honor. Local tradition agrees that at the place where Saint Isidore was martyred, the mastic trees shed fragrant tears because of the Holy Martyr's suffering. His feast day is on May 14.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
