Saint Demetrius the Metropolitan of Rostov
Orthodox icon of Saint Demetrius the Metropolitan of Rostov on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
St. Demetrius was born in the locale of Makarovo in 1651. In 1662 his family resettled to Kiev and Demetrius was sent to the Kiev-Mogilyansk college. He learned the Greek and Latin languages and the entire series of classical sciences. In 1668 Demetrius accepted monastic tonsure. In 1675 he progressed through the monastic obediences at Kiev's Kirillov monastery, where he began his literary and preaching activity. In the same year he was ordained hieromonk; he lived as an ascetic and preached the Word of God in Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus. In 1684 he was summoned to the Kiev Caves Lavra, where he was responsible organizing the MENAION, the Lives of the Saints for the whole year. In 1701 he was consecrated as Metropolitan of Tobolsk. In 1702 he was appointed Metropolitan of Rostov. In 1709 he died peacefully. His feast day is on October 28.
