Orthodox icon of Saint Vitalis of Gaza on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
St. Vitalis, a monk of the monastery of Seridus in Gaza, travelled to Alexandria at the age of 60. His legend states that after obtaining the name and address of every prostitute in the city, he hired himself out as a day laborer, and took his wage to one of these women at the end of the day. He would hire the woman for the night and spend the night awake and praying. Vitalis was killed when a man, misunderstanding the nature of the monk's visit to a brothel, struck him on the head. Vitalis managed to return to his hut where he died in 625 AD. His feast day for the Orthodox Church is on January 11 and April 22, and for the Roman Catholic Church on January 11. He is the patron saint of prostitutes and day-laborers.
