It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.

St. Sigismund was born in 475 and was a student of Avitus, Bishop of Vienne. He found a monastery dedicated to St. Maurice at Agaune in Valais in 515. In 516 he became king of the Burgundians; he married the daughter of the Ostrogoth king Theodoric and had one son, Sigeric. His wife died and he remarried. The new Queen persuaded Sigismund to deal with his son, alleging that Sigeric planned to kill him and seized the throne. Sigismund ordered the young man to be taken while drunk and drowned in a well. Then, overcome with remorse, Sigismund retreated to his monastery. In 523, Clotilde, the Queen of the Franks, provoked the Burgundian War, which led to Sigismund's deposition and imprisonment, and his assassination in 524. His feast day is on May 1 and is the patron saint of the Czech Republic, monarchs, Germanic peoples, bibliophiles and monasteries.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
