St. Malachias was born in Lindos, Rhodes in the 16th century. When he was 22 years old he traveled to various Christian shrines on pilgrimage in Asia Minor, Greece, Egypt, and Jerusalem. There he joined the brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre. One day a Muslim struck Malachias in the marketplace and accused him of insulting the prophet Muhammad. The Muslim authorities pressured Malachias to convert to Islam and save his life, but he refused. They proceeded to beat him savagely and to pierce his ankles through. They pass thin ropes through his pierced ankles which were then attached to horses. The torturers proceeded to whip them to make them run as fast as possible. After this and many other tortures, Malachias was lead outside the city where he was impaled with a metal-tipped stake pounded through his body. He was lifted up and placed over a fire and was thus roasted alive. His feast day is on September 29.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
