St. Ignatius was born in the village of Zagora, Tyrnavos. Later his family moved to Philipoupoli. There the Turks killed his father; his mother and 2 sisters became Muslims by force. When Ignatius heard the news, he went to Bucarest and from there to Mount Athos. On his way he was arrested by the Othomans and to escape from death he promised to become a Muslim. When he arrived to Mount Athos, he went to the Skete of St. John the Forerunner, where he was tonsured a monk. In 1814 he went to Constantinople, where in front of the judge throwed his Turkish fesi (hat) and confessed Christ. The Turks tortured him cruely and was hanged on October 8, 1814.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
