St. Hilda became famous for her steady hand and great wisdom. Kings and Princes consulted her on all manner of things. It is said that Hilda steered a steady ship, provide nurture for the local community around the Abbey. Local folklore says that St Hilda got rid of all the evil snakes and serpents in Whitby by throwing them off the top of the Abbey Cliff and that they turned to stone in the heat of her anger. This was a medieval explanation of the spiral fossil Ammonites found in the rocks below the cliffs. St. Hilda is considered one of the patron saints of learning and culture, including poetry, due to her patronage of Cædmon. Two churches in Whitby, (Roman Catholic and Anglican), have been dedicated under her patronage and another, in Bilsborrow, Lancashire.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
