St. Margaret was born in York, 1556. In 1571 she married John Clitherow, a wealthy butcher and bore 3 children. In 1574 she converted to Roman Catholicism. She risked her life by harbouring and maintaining priests; she rented a house, where she kept priests hidden and Mass was celebrated through the thick of persecution. In March 1586 the Clitherow house was searched and a frightened boy revealed the location of the priest hole. Margaret was arrested with the crime of harbouring Catholic priests. She was sentenced to death, by being crushed to death by her own door. Her feast day is on October 25 in Wales, on May 4 in England, August 30 and February 27. She is the patron saint of businesswomen, converts, martyrs, Catholic Women's League and Latin Mass Society.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
