Saint Augustine, Archbishop of Canterbury
Saint Augustine, Archbishop of Canterbury

Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
In 596, Augustine had been prior of the monastery of Saint Andrew and was sent by Pope Gregory I at the head of 40 monks to preach to the Anglo-Saxons. They lost heart on the way and Augustine went back to Rome from Provence and asked that the mission be given up. In 597 Augustine was sent to King Ethelbert, who permitted the missionaries to settle and preach in his town of Canterbury, and before the end of the year Augustine was consecrated bishop at Arles. Augustine reconsecrated and rebuilt an old church at Canterbury as his cathedral and founded a monastery in connection with it. He also restored a church and founded the monastery of St. Peter and St. Paul outside the walls. He died May 26, 605.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
