St. Malo was a navigator monk, born in the 6th century in the south-east of Wales near the English border, and one of the Seven Saints who founded Brittany. St. Malo was sent from an early age to the monastery of Saint Brandan, who noticed him very quickly for his piety. Shortly after, St. Brandan embarked with Malo with the aim of finding the Fortunate Isles and preach the faith to the Barbarians. After several years of sailing, he retired to his monastery. Attracted by the passion of the hermit Aaron, he decides to visit him. After a hermit life shared with Aaron, St. Malo takes leave of his companion and joins the city built at the mouth of Rancid. There he performed many miracles and the people built him a monastery near the city, while Malo was promoted to the head of the bishopric of the city. Despite everything, Malo suffered persecution and decided to leave Alet. As soon as he left, the plaque and famine fell on Alet. The drought “burned the towns & ruined the houses, strangled several hundred people; a punishment for ingratitude towards the saint. A delegation finds him in Saintonge and tries to convince him to return. After the appearance of an angel, Maclow decides to return to the Brittany coast. "As soon as S. Malo entered Brittany, the air was purged, & suddenly, the plague ceased throughout the Bishopric of Aleth, & the ports & harbors were filled with ships laden with wheat & others provisions, in such abundance, that the famine was entirely chased away. After this umpteenth miracle, Saint Malo definitively joined Saintonge in 621 where he died there more than a hundred years old. His feast day is on October 16.
