Saint Klio the Virgin Martyr
Saint Klio the Virgin Martyr
Orthodox icon of Saint Klio the Virgin Martyr on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
St. Klio was one of the forty virgins and ascetics who were sentenced to death along with their teacher Ammun because of their Christian faith. Ammun was arrested with his students by the pagan ruler of Edirne, Vavdos, who tortured them horrifically and referred them to the ruler of the region, Licinius. Saint Klio together with her teacher and the other ascetics confessed their faith in God, with the consequence that Licinius ordered their death. Ammun and eight of his students were beheaded, ten were thrown into the fire, ten were killed with swords in the mouth and heart, six were forced to swallow incandescent marbles and the other six were stabbed. The memory of the 40 virgins and Amun is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on September 1 of each year.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
