St. Syra lived during the 6th century in Persia and was the daughter of an illustrious pagan priest. Syra became a priestess at the heathen temple of fire. However she believed in Christ and began to live as a Christian. At one point, Syra became sick and she went to the Christian church. She touched the robe of the priest and immediately received healing and she returned home. During the morning sacrifice, Syra was stoking the priestly fire worshipped by the Persians as their god and overturning the sacrifice she proclaimed loudly. ''I am a Christian and reject false gods and I believe in the True God''. Syra’s father beat her until he became exhausted, and then threw her in prison. Her father then denounced her to the pagan high priest, and afterwards to the governor and to Emperor Chozroes the Elder. Syra was condemned to be strangled. Her feast day is on August 24.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
