St. Michael was born in Synnada, Phrygia and from his childhood was consecrated to God. He studied at Constantinople and there he met Saint Theophylaktos. Desiring to become monks, Saint Tarasios the Patriarch of Constantinople sent them to a monastery near the Black Sea. There the two monks lived a life dedicated to prayer and asceticism. Patriarch Tarasios consecrated Theophylaktos as Bishop of Nicomedia and Michael as Bishop of Synnada, in the year 784. In the time of the wicked iconoclast Emperor Leo V the Armenian, Bishop Michael defended Orthodoxy, bravely opposing the heretics and denouncing their error. For this he was deposed from his episcopal throne and sent into exile. He reposed in Eudokiada in 818. His feast day is on May 23 and is the patron saint of crops from pests.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
