St. Antonina was from from the village of Kardamos. Arrested for being a Christian in 313, she was brought before Governor Festos, who was unable to persuade her to renounce Christ. The Governor forced her to enter a house of prostitution, where she remained for 3 days in fasting and prayer. Then, during the night, a heavenly light appeared to her and there was an earthquake. The doors of the brothel were opened to her, and a voice from heaven exhorted her to rise and eat bread. After Antonina requested bread and ate, the women of the brothel sent her away out of fear. The governor, who again was unable to convince her to sacrifice to idols, sent her to another brothel. There was a young Christian named Alexander who received a revelation through a divine angel to go to the brothel. He went to Antonina, gave her his cloak, and told her to go outside, covering her head with his cloak. Within a short time it was realized from the soldiers that Antonina was missing and they found Alexander in her place. Alexander confessed his actions and for this he was thrashed with broad wooden blades. The soldiers apprehended Antonina and they severed both of their hands and feet. Then they smeared Alexander and Antonina with pitch and cast them into a fiery pit. Their feast day is on June 10.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
