St. George was born in Kratovo, Serbia in 1497. He fled to Sofia in Bulgaria at the age of 12 and lived with a devout priest. He worked a a goldsmith. Certain Muslims took notice of him and desired to convert him to Islam. An Islamic scholar accused George for blasphemy and mocking the Islam before the judge of Sofia. The judge tried to persuade him to convert to Islam, but George remained steadfast to his faith. He was imprisoned. After a few days the Turks tied his hands behind his back, put a chain around his neck and dragged him to the marketplace. They piled the wood and lit a great fire and dragged him to the fire. The fire eventually burned the rope that bound his hands, which allowed George to raise his hands in prayer, do his cross, and surrender his spirit to God. His feast day is on February 11.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
