St. John was born in Yorkshire, in 640, of a noble Saxon family. He undertook studies with St. Hilda at the monastery she founded at Whitby. St. John left Whitby and retired near the River Tyne, spending his time in prayer and meditation. However, his compassion for the people led him to leave his solitude and go to preach to the people of the area. In 687, he became Bishop of Hexham. In 705, he became Bishop of York. He organized the training and education of the young men in his area and founded Beverley Grammar School in 700. After many years St. John retired and founded a monastery at Beverley in 714. In 721, St. John died peacefully. His feast day is on May 7 and 20.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
