St. Michael was born at Chonae in Phrygia and he was a student at the feet of Niketas the Metropolitan of the city as well as the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Saint Eustathios while in Constantinople. He served the Patriarchate for a short time and was elected Metropolitan of the city of Athens. The seizure of Athens by the Burgundian raid in 1204 and the forbidding of the exercise of his spiritual and pastoral duties led Michael into voluntary exile to Thessaloniki, Evia and Kea, where he remained 10 years working for his distressed flock. Finally he withdrew to the Monastery of St. John the Forerunner at Mountonitsa near Thermopylae, and having lived in peace he came to full measure in 1222. His feast day is on July 4.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
