Saint Makarios Notaras, Bishop of Corinth

Orthodox icon of Saint Makarios Notaras, Bishop of Corinth on thick plywood 20mm, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. St. Makarios, known as Michael Notaras, was born in Trikala of Corinth in 1731 AD. His father was named George and his mother Anastasia. At the age of 15 he went to Kefalonia where he was taught by Eustathius and later went to the Monastery of the Great Cave to practice. In 1764 AD was proclaimed Archbishop of Corinth succeeding Metropolitan Parthenius. After Orlofika, he went in Zakynthos with his family and there he meets Nikiforos Theotokis. Saint Makarios will be found in Hydra in 1773 AD where he meets Saint Nicodemus of Mount Athos. Later he goes to Chios and then to Mount Athos. There he refuses to hold a memorial service at the Koutloumousiou Monastery on Sunday and the occasion is the outbreak of the Kolyvadika crisis. The anti-Kolivades will report him to Patriarch Sophronius. Macarius was disappointed very much and he left from the Orchard of the Virgin Mary. He will return to Mount Athos after the death of his father. In 1790 AD will settle permanently in Chios and will be engaged in his missionary work and the writing of religious books. He died peacefully in 1805 AD. His memory is commemorated by the Orthodox Christian Church on April 17 of each year.
