St. John was born in France, 1786. At the age of 20 he went at a ''presbytery-school'' and learned arithmetic, history, geography and latin. In 1809 he was drafted into Napoleon's armies. Two days after he had to report at Lyons, he became ill and was hospitalized, during which time his draft left without him. Once released from the hospital he was sent to Roanne for another draft. He went into a church to pray and met a young man who led him deep into to the mountains of Le Forez, where he lived for 14 months as a deserter. In 1810 an imperial proclamation granted amnesty to all deserters, enabling John to return to his studies. He was tonsured in 1811, and in 1812 he went to the minor seminary at Verrieres-en-Forez. In 1815 he was ordained a deacon and priest. In 1818 he was appointed parish priest of the parish of Ars. On August 4, 1859 St. John died. His feast day is on August 4 and is the patron saint of parish priests, confessors, Archdiocese of Dubuque and Kansas City.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
