St. Eleazar was born in Kozelsk, Russia, from a merchant family, and in young age took the monastic orders in the Solovki monastery from abbot Irenarch. He carved sacred statues in wood and participated in the embellishment of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Solovki. He left the monastery in 1612 to settle on the island of Anzersk, where he became a hermit. In 1616 Eleazar was raised to the rank of schemamonk and disciples began to come to him from various parts of Russia who wanted to learn the monastic life. He then built a monastery, in the model of a skete, with very strict rules. He died in 1656 after 40 years of hermitism. His feast day is on January 13.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
