St. Nikolaos as a child showed the first signs of his holiness, when he gave the food stocks of his father's house to the poor and yet, despite his father's worries, the jars were always full. That is why he received a blessing from his father to follow the ascetic life. He left for the mountains, forests and gorges of Crete as a child or teenager and, living ascetically, reached a great height of sanctity. He lived part of his life in the plain of Messara, in Heraklion. Before his death he returned in the province of Saint Basil, his birthplace. He brought with him a Messarite, who had fatally wounded him, by mistake, while hunting with his bow, and, according to the wish of the saint, had carried him there. The Messarite was thirsty and the Saint, stretching out his hand, sprung from the rocks 5 springs with water, which follow and the order and proportion of the fingers of his hand. His feast day is on September 1.

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.
Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.
Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
