St. Nektarios known as Anastasios Kefalas, was born in Silivria of Thrace in 1846 AD. by pious Christian parents. The year 1866 AD was appointed a teacher in Lithio of Chios. His love for solitary life was great and in 1876 AD. became a monk named Lazarus. A year later he was ordained a deacon in Chios under the name Nektarios. In 1885 AD received his degree from the Theological School of the University of Athens at the expense of Patriarch of Alexandria Sophronius. The following year he was ordained presbyter in Alexandria and then metropolitan of Pentapolis in Egypt. His rapid rise provoked the envy of many clergy of the patriarchate who suggested to Sophronius his removal, as it did. Saint Nektarios returned to Greece and specifically to Athens in 1889 and in 1904 he founded the nunnery of the Holy Trinity in Aegina where he performed many miracles and became known throughout Greece. In 1919 he contracted prostate cancer and died in Aretaio of Athens on November 8, 1920. On April 20, 1961 AD. was proclaimed a Saint by an Act of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Skull and most of the Relics of Saint Nektarios are kept in the Monastery of the Holy Trinity of Aegina. His memory is commemorated on November 9 of each year.
