St. Meletius was born in Rhodes in the 18th century. He was taught to read and write by the native parish priest. He withdrew to a cave in the dilapidated monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos Ipseni, where he found the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos after a miracle. In 1855 he began to built the sacred church of Theotokos and received the Angelic Schema. The Bishop of Rhodes ordained him a deacon, then a Presbyter and in the end Abbot of his Monastery. A Turk corrupted and made pregnant a Christian girl, who suffered from mental retardation. The Turks show that Meletius was the father of the unborn infant and denounced him before the Metropolitan of Rhodes. St. Meletius, who could not endure the accusations, died before the feet of the Metropolitan. The slander was revealed when his grave was later opened and his relics were fragrant as a testimony to his holiness. His feast day is on February 12.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
