Saint Lazarus of Murom was a Greek, born at Constantinople. He became a monk at the High-Mount Monastery under the Elder Athanasius Diskotes. Eight years later, Lazarus was under the guidance of Bishop Basil of Caesarea. As a noted iconographer St. Lazarus made a copy of Novgorod's Icon of Sophia, the Wisdom of God for the Caesarea diocese and lived there for ten years. After the death of Bishop Basil of Caesarea and Saint Basil, Archbishop of Novgorod, St. Lazarus went to Mucha(Murom) Island in Lake Onega and found a monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and two churches of the Resurrection of Lazarus and of Saint John the Forerunner. St. Lazarus departed to the Lord on March 8, 1391 at the age of 105 years. They buried him in a chapel beside the church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
