St. Alypius was born in Hadrianopolis in Paphlagonia. He was educated by the bishop Theodore. Alypius yearned to practice the life of a hermit, but Bishop Theodore would not give him permission to do so. Alypius built a church in honour of St. Euphemia on the site of a dilapidated pagan temple. He erected a pillar beside the church and lived atop it for the majority of his adult life. Two monasteries were built beside the pillar and served as spiritual director of both. One of the famous "pillar saints" (stylites), he lived on the pillar for over 50 years. He reposed in 640, at the age of 118. His feast is celebrated on November 26 and is the patron saint of fertility in women and young children.

Care Instructions

My handpainted icons are made from natural materials that constantly interact with their environment. These above materials are sensitive to extreme light, heat and humidity.

Handling the icons should also be done cautiously; oils from our hands can stain their shiny surface. Dust can softly be removed with a pure white cloth.

Following the above simple instructions will guarantee that your icon will age gracefully through time and will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
